Our sustainable fish farming practices
At Babylon Fish Farm, we take pride in our sustainable practices. This starts with independently powering our farm, using over 40 kW of solar panels and 100 kW of batteries. This renewable energy source brings us one step closer to reaching our goal of being carbon neutral. Our aeration systems and indoor holding tanks run off the solar energy produced by our panels, allowing us to provide the best possible conditions for our fish. This ensures that our fish are of the highest quality when they go out for delivery.
Fish farming wouldn’t be possible without our water source, the Sutton Valence stream. That’s why we take great care to limit pumping from this stream and prevent the discharge of effluent. We recycle our pond water each year and draw water from a well for day-to-day use. We’re proud to be completely independent of the grid for water, relying on the pure water sources available around our farm. As a result, our customers receive some of the finest fish on the market.
How do we limit our impact on the environment?
Reducing our carbon footprint is one of our top priorities. We only allow one diesel vehicle on the farm, used exclusively for the transportation of our fish. This vehicle has the latest Euro 6 engine, designed to limit emissions. All other vehicles used for the daily operation of our farm are electric, allowing us to travel carbon-free. We’re constantly taking more steps to reduce our impact on the environment. To find out more about what we do, contact our team today.
